Oceania Travel Plans

Last week I shared the news that I’m currently in Australia so I wanted to shared my route and the main plans I have when I am there.

I’m doing things a little differently this time, compared to America, and instead of staying in single occupancy hotel rooms, I’m in shared hostel accommodation. Also, I’m backpacking and travelling around on buses. It’s all a little outside of my comfort zone and to be honest I’m not sure how I’m going to enjoy it, but it’s the Australian experience and the most affordable option, so that’s what I’m doing. I’ll be sharing reviews of everything as I go so if you’re interested in a similar trip, there’ll be lots of advice and tips coming.

I’m starting in Melbourne, with a free city day, following by a trip to Philip Island and a trip to Great Ocean Road. Then, I fly to Cairns and start my East Coast trip south to Sydney. In Cairns, I again have a free city day, alongside a boat day trip to the Great Barrier Reef and a day trip to the Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge. Onto Magnetic Island and all the wild koalas, before heading to Airlie Island for a Whitsundays sailing trip for a few days. Once back on land, it’s to the skies for a scenic flight above the Great Barrier Reef and then to Mackay for rainforest platypus and sunrise kangaroos. Continuing the trip, I call at Rainbow Beach on the way to Noosa, then to Fraser Island “K’gari” and Brisbane. In Brisbane, I have another free city day and my number one to do, a visit to Australia Zoo. My final East Coast spots are Byron Bay for the lighthouse and Sydney for the city, beaches and a Blue Mountains trip. I end Australia with a flight to Uluru, for Ayers Rock and again, I cannot wait!

From Australia, I head to New Zealand for a week on the North Island. Beginning with Auckland, then down to Rotorua, calling at the Waitoma Glowworm Caves and Hobbiton on the way, then having a geothermal and Mauri cultural day, before heading to Lake Taupo for the scenery. I then end in Wellington.

Wellington then takes me home to London, through Singapore on the way back, where I’m very excited to see the incredible Garden by the Bay.

I would love to know what you would add to the itinerary and your favourite places! Unfortunately, it is too late to change it now, but you never know.

Ps. I’ll share my full itinerary as a download on here when I get back.
