Bathroom Update, Carpet Fitting and Delayed Graduation!

Image
There are major house updates and I finally had my graduation ceremony.  Click here to watch the vlog or see below.  The house is finally starting to make progress with decorating almost done, the bathroom rapidly progressing and the carpet work is completed. My dad treated me to a new carpet for the spare bedroom as a house warming present. I picked it in a vlog a couple weeks ago and I fell in love straight away. It is truly beautiful! It got fitted bright and early, then the carpet cleaners came not long after. In all honesty, I think I booked the wrong type of cleaning because it was more for industrial purposes and a lot more expensive than anticipated, but the carpets look great and almost brand new.  My mum came down which was really nice and honestly, I appreciated it so much. I left her mainly cleaning the new house room by room, as much as we can given that it's a current building site, whilst I packed boxes at the rental and started loading the car. Then we swapped and I

I Finally Had my Graduation Ceremony!

Despite being a qualified midwife for 20 months, and finishing my university degree in December 2020, after 6 years of university, I have finally graduated and attended my graduation ceremony! Thanks to Covid-19, ceremonies were put on hold and delayed. Most universities started them back up again last summer, but sadly, The University of Nottingham did not. Well, it was finally my time to walk the stage and it was such an experience.  The vlog of graduation will be going live later this week, but in all honesty it wasn't the dreamy day I had planned. In the midst of moving house (literally the day after) and a British heatwave with highs of 35 degrees, the whole day was pretty torturous. I was already annoyed we were the last ceremony of the day and couldn't collect gowns until less than 2 hours before. We arrived and registered and then got dressed. It was honestly sweltering, but it was so nice to see everyone again and have a mini reunion. It wasn't the easiest to get e

Family BBQ, Disappointing Paintwork and Intimate Wedding!

Image
After the big wedding, we had a small family barbeque and then I went back to the new house for progress updated and also had another wedding for a friend. Click here to watch the vlog or see below.  The day after the big wedding left me feeling very rough. It finished just after 11pm, so it wasn't a super late night, but I slept rubbish and then got woken up at 8.30am on a Sunday morning which I really wasn't happy about. I ended up getting dressed and ready for the day, and started to go through some of the boxes in the study ready to take to the new house. In the end, mum said not to take anything yet, until there is a place to put it, which does make sense, but it left me feeling a little less prepared. I then fell asleep on the sofa for a few hours, missing the first part of a mini family barbeque and coming out just in time for food.  I ended up going straight back to the new house on my way home and was really upset and disappointed with the quality of finish, but also t

Moving Day and Hiring Help (Buying my First Home)

It's been almost a month since I shared a true buying a house help post. With the busyness of moving and craziness of packing and unpacking, I'm finally getting around to sharing the last part of moving. Most things that come with moving house and buying a property, a lot of it is ultimately out of your hands and replies on waiting for other people to do their jobs, which can be hard. Packing is the one part that was on me!  If you've watched the vlogs, you'll have seen how busy I was in the 2 weeks around my house move. I had a 4 day wedding celebration , another wedding and graduation ! I'm also not someone who can live in chaos for long. I am admittedly slightly OCD and so any sort of disorganisation, I find really stressful and my anxiety kicks in. Whether right or wrong, I decided to leave packing up my house until the Wednesday before the move, leaving just 3 days to pack up the entire house. Realistically, it was 2 and a half in the end! My rental wasn't

Decorating Update, Wedding Redo and Sikh Traditions!

It was officially my cousin's second wedding week (repeat due to Covid-19 restrictions previously), with some house updates to start.  Click here for the vlog or watch below.  The last vlog ended a little abruptly because it ended up being very stressful. I spray painted a table I'd got for free, and then unfortunately not only dyed my drive way but also ran out of spray paint before I'd even done half of the pieces. I then attempted to do the panelling myself and had to call for help because unfortunately, it ended up being a lot more difficult than I thought and we were working until 11pm. It was very dark and stressful! Ultimately, the panelling looks great and I'm really excited to see how it looks when painted, but it was very stressful and I'll talk more about the process when I talk about the room in a post in the next few months.  Luke ended up coming over the next day to help me build and put up the fireplace, as we'd ripped out the old one as it looked

Double Vlogs to Catch Up

I have officially been in my new house just over a week today and it's all starting to come together, although not quite as perfectly as I would have wanted. There have been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of tearful moments and a lot of stress. I unpacked the majority of the boxes in the first couple of days and then I've just been slowly settling into this new house life and will hopefully feel at home soon.  The whole house has been redecorated and the bathroom rippled out and completely renovated. It  is functional now but not quite finished and I'm not super happy with the quality of finish in either, but hopefully they will be rectified soon. The kitchen has been ordered so bits for that will be getting completed soon. The utility room is in the process of being booked, but I'm praying for a date in October because I also have the fitted wardrobes being fitted and the second sofa arriving in the first couple of weeks of the month, so it would be nice for it all to b

House Renovations, Building Projects and Decorating Begins! (Buying my First Home)

The emotional tearfulness continues as I start house projects and decorating, but by the time both my parents had been, I felt a lot better. Click here to watch the vlog or see below.  The start of the week was just emotional as I kept chasing my solicitor about both the utility room and the bins, which I was getting fined £100 for. I was honestly furious about the whole situation, and it only but a downer on everything else. My mum ended up coming down the next day to help support me and see the house for the first time. We had a few deliveries to wait in for and I had both the decorator and wardrobe fitter from Hammonds come in the morning, before she arrived. They were both great and it made me start to feel at least a little better.  To take a little break and make me feel a little better, we headed to B and Q to get some inspiration, and then Next to try on some clothes I ordered. If you've watched some of the previous vlogs, you'll have seen I've been desperate to fin
