March 2020 Round Up!

Image
Another month, another round up ! Are you enjoying these posts? Book: It's really bad but this month I haven't read any books. I just haven't had a lot of free time and when I have, my eyes feel so heavy and tired, I couldn't think of anything worse than reading.  Film: Once again, I haven’t really watched films recently. We watched Destination Wedding at the start of the month and it was alright but a pretty strange and overall strange film. We also watched The War with Grandpa and Made in Italy which were two really fun, easy going films...much needed after stressful shifts.  TV Show: Wanda Vision has been a great season opener and debut series for Marvel. I didn't love the first episode but the rest have been amazing. By myself, I've watched Ginny and Georgia, which I've really enjoyed. I've also loved watching Blown Away and Motherhood for an easy to watch 20 minute show, in some short gaps between activities.  Podcast: It's only got 3 episodes b

More Bereavement Training?

Image
As many of you know, bereavement care is one of my passions within midwifery, but it's also one of the ones I feel most pressured by, because it's so vitally important to get it right. Families have such a short period of time to make a lifetime of memories, and as a midwife caring for them in that time, it's such a privilege to be a small part of their lives, being one of the handful of individuals who have seen their precious baby.  I have done a number of training days on the topic already, and for me, this is so important because we don't have much included as part of the core undergraduate degree. I've attended lots of Beyond Bea sessions, which is a charity I love, but when I came across another free training by  Bereavement Training International , a specialty baby loss consultancy.  Paula, who is the principal, is a psychotherapist, specialising in providing bereavement support following the death of a baby or child. She worked for more than ten years in

Homemade Roast, Shift Recovery and Garden Weeding!

Image
I'm utterly exhausted but trying to enjoy the warmer weather with lots of walks, yummy food and doing the next steps in the garden.  Click here for the vlog or see below.  Hello! After 3 weeks (?!) away from uploading, I'm back with a vlog. I took a few weeks off recording and then put a few clips from different weeks together with this one. I've been doing a lot of night shifts recently and night shifts just completely take it out of me. It takes me about 3 days to recover after a night shift and it's not a lot of fun. I'll be honest, I'm not a nice person. I like sleeping and not talking, but I also like Luke being there to cuddle me and massage me, which is so hard, cause he likes to be constantly active when he's not at work. Whereas my work is constantly busy, hands on and crazy, his is sat at a desk 8am - 5pm every day. It's so different, it's hard.  After falling asleep on him for the second time in a day, I sent him off for a walk. Whilst he

Home Decor Haul (plus Easter Decor)!

Image
Following on from my small furniture home haul , I'm now sharing some recent decor that I've bought. These are some little bits, all affordable and easily accessible, that are for my lounge and study area. Let me know your favourites in the comments! First of all, I finally have curtain tie backs for my lounge curtains and they are absolutely perfect and just what I was looking for. I wanted something with a simple, modern look. I loved the idea of the magnetic ones but didn't find any I liked the look of. I think these are gorgeous rope knots. They are super simple to use and look beautiful. They come in lots of colours but I liked the contrast of these cream ones, and they matched my furniture. I also think when I do move, they will go in every room.  I got two little cushions from Dunelm when I got my sofa. They were included in the price of my sofa, but I got to select the colours and the yellow/cream stripes worked well.  This candle from Sainsbury's is absolutely

Small Furniture Home Haul!

Image
I'm always looking for decor and furniture. Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok are pretty bad for my bank balance, but for the most part, I'm looking into the future. A girl can dream! Nevertheless, some new big pieces of furniture have finally arrived since I shared my house reveals room-by-room, and the office space is finally feeling more homely, rather than an empty space. I thought I'd share some of the bits I've purchased over the past couple of months and then next week, I'll be revealing my office.  First, my sofa finally arrived. I ordered the sofa back in September with DFS. It was a really simple online process, but I was originally told it would be delivered before Christmas. It didn't end up arriving until mid-February, but luckily I decided to buy a temporary, relatively cheap sofa from Ikea in the meantime. It was still a little frustrating, but it's finally here and it's incredibly comfortable.  My office desk is probably the oldest item in

RCM Education Conference 2021

Image
This year's RCM Education Conference was very different to last years. This time last year, it was before the pandemic truly hit the UK and I think we were all a little bit in denial. The conference took place in Leeds and I was also apart of the programme, with my research project being presented and me doing a conference talk. It was a different world!  This year, the conference took place online, which is obviously very different, however it has become a sense of normal over the past year, and as I've talked about before, I actually really enjoy learning and working from the comfort of my own home. The other huge difference is that my perspective on midwifery education has completely flipped. I am now on the other side of my undergraduate degree training, and although I am looking forward to continuing my education in the future, right now I am focussing on clinical practice and being a great Practice Supervisor, so that I can help new students in their own journeys.  Now in

Federico Mahora Fragrance: Sample Bundle (Review)

Image
If you're new here, welcome! If not, hi again! I never know how much detail to go into sometimes because people here know such an array of information about me. In case you didn't know, I'm a midwife, blogger, vlogger and also small business owner . I am a Independent Distributor of SheerSense, selling long-lasting makeup and high quality skincare that works. Having joined the world of multi-level marketing (MLM) myself almost 4 years ago, I have loved supporting other people's small businesses and today is no different. In the past I've shared about Scentsy (still one of my favourites), but today I'm talking about Federico Mahora Fragrance. Charlotte recently sent me a sample pack with a couple of fragrances in, as well as information on the company, opportunity and her business. I actually found the information quite interesting, especially regarding the copyright information surrounding perfume, the definition of parfum (which I actually know from my own busi

Easy Steps to Save Money

Image
As a university student I shared a post on budgeting and managing finances . Of course, this was something that was relatively new to me and more focussed on life as a student. I feel like I've now become much more savvy and have found new ways to save money so I wanted to share some of my newer top tips, many involving apps, as that's the new way forward!  The quickest and easiest way I have found to save money is to use discount codes when shopping, both online and in-person. A quick Google search can often lead to some good findings, however they can be both time consuming and require trial and error. Honey is a great way to simplify that; it is a browser plugin that automatically applies the best discount code available in the database, at the checkout stage of online shopping. It's free, simple to use and works on most sites!  Find the best accounts for you. Make sure to do research on which bank accounts are best for you and don't be afraid to challenge branches,

Student Midwife Q+A for the NMA Journal!

Image
It's been a while since I talked about the NMA Journal and of course, I'm no longer involved in it like I used to be. I still love following along and reading the latest editions, so when the new Editor got in touch and asked me to answer her questions, I couldn't say no. I ended up writing this back in October, but it's only just been published, and reading it back, it really does cover so much of my student midwife journey so I thought I would share it here too.  You can click on the images to enlarge them, or read the full journal here . The theme this month was all about "Placement Experience" so if you're a student midwife or nurse, it's a really great place to read other's experience of it and get some tips!  The NMA Journal was my baby for so long and I put so much hard work, effort and energy into it. I am so proud to see the tradition continue, and so happy I have created a little legacy that will hopefully be around for years to come.

Beer52 - Beer Subscription Service (Review)

Image
You may have seen me mention this in my Valentine’s Day post , and I actually got it for my boyfriend as part of his gifts. In case you didn’t know, I don’t drink alcohol at all, like my dad I’m tea-total. He loved the one I got for Christmas so much, that I decided to get him one for Valentine’s Day as well.  Beer 52 is a beer subscription service where you get a range of beer delivered directly to your house. Each month they have a different theme based on a specific country, with the last being Poland, however this one seemed to be a mix. Originally it was suppose to be Australia but it didn't seem to be this time, but it contains a minimum of 8 beers and a snack from that country. You can select between dark and light or just light beers, with the latter being vegan friendly. You also earn points with every purchase and when you rate your beers to show others what you think. Interestingly, they also have a podcast in case your further interested in learning more about beer!  T
