July Round Up

Image
We're over half way through the year and hasn't the weather been lovely!  Book : I should just get rid of this question because it's sadly just not happening.  Film : I'm hoping to watch some Disney films later this week but I loved watching Fatherhood this month. Such a lovely show.  TV Show : Homeland has been a long time show that my partner and I are binge watching. We've just got onto S5 and wow...this one has me on the edge of my seat most days! Podcast : Last month some of my long time favourites launched a podcast, and this month, one of my newer favourites did. Kyra from OKBaby and her friend just launched a raunchy girls podcast called Beneath the Sheets . They actually launched all of the episodes at once. I've only listened to a couple so far but I love their honesty.  Blogger : Again not new posts, but Twist Me Pretty has been revisited for some quick summer heairstyle. YouTuber : I've followed the Duggar and Bates families for a while, and rece

3000 Squats in July Challenge!

Image
If you saw my previous post earlier this month, you'll have seen that this month I am supporting Group B Strep Support with their 3000 Squats in July challenge . It's perfect timing because this month also happens to be Group B Strep Awareness month, so I thought I'd give a little update on how the challenge is going.  So far I'm a little behind on both the squat total and my fundraising total, but I have this last week to make a big push. I am going to be squatting my butt off to hit 3000 and then I will hopefully hit my £100 target too. I am actually not struggling with the squats like I thought I would, but it's just trying to find the time to do it, without someone being around and watching. I've been really enjoying switching up my squatting pattern: normal, wide, narrow, pulses, plies etc. I've just started incorporating jumping squats into the pattern as well. It just makes it so much more fun  If you would like to donate to my fundraiser and help su

Wimbledon Tennis, Euro 2020 and Hedgehog Attack!

Image
With two weeks of Wimbledon and Euro 2020, it was a sports filled downtime. Plus, there was a little accident with a hedgehog.  Click here to watch the vlog or see below.  The weekend started off with a takeaway. Luke suggested going into town to eat, but a) it was a Friday night so would have been very busy and as you know, I don't like crowds and b) he wanted BarBurrito which I would never voluntarily eat in public! We ended up getting a takeaway and joked that I should have ordered because on the few occasions that Luke has ordered, it's either gone missing, had major bits not present or been overcharged. Well this time was no different, as he pub the wrong delivery address in! Luckily, it went to his old house from when he was a student, so he quickly ran down and then had to give the driver directions as they somewhat thankfully got lost. All was well, it arrived hot and tasty, and we devoured it whilst watching Homeland.  The next day, Luke went to archery whilst I had a

Great Yorkshire Show Haul!

Image
The Great Yorkshire Show is a family tradition for my family, and I was so gutted that last year's event had to be cancelled. This year, it was almost called off again but thankfully, it went ahead and I managed to get the day off work to attend! The vlog is going live next weekend because I'm a little ahead of the weekly vlogs, but I thought I would share a little mini Great Yorkshire Show haul today.  I feel awful that I can't remember the name of this artist, but she was lovely and hand painted animal canvas' in this style. She was actually painting whilst there. Some of them were then paid into prints, including these cars, so I bought a handful for some upcoming birthdays and events.  From the food hall, we bought some brownies from Wild Bills . We ended up getting salted caramel, plain, cookie dough and cornflake. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the brownie itself. I think it's made with dark chocolate so it's a little too rich for my liking, but a

Pregnancy, Breastfeeding and Covid Vaccine

Image
As a midwife, and a community midwife at that, I feel I have a responsibility to mention and discuss the Covid-19 vaccination programme with women that come to me, but also with the public to ensure that women can make an informed choice in regards to their health and their unborn babies. Admittedly, there has been mixed messages about the population I look after having the vaccination, however the message is now clear.  There is no evidence that the vaccines have any effect on fertility or your chances of becoming pregnant. They offer pregnant women the best protection against Covid 19, which can be a serious illness. All women should now be having the Covid-19 vaccine, regardless of whether they are pregnant or breastfeeding, in line with their age group callout. Pregnant women are more likely to be seriously unwell with Covid-19. If women do contract Covid-19, there is an increased risk of stillbirth and premature delivery. Often the latter is required to allow the mother to receive

Cambridge Punting, House Concert and Garden Blooming!

Image
A little barbeque house warming, a lovely weekend with my sister and my garden has flowers!  Click here to watch the vlog or see below. There's also a private vlog of the kids.  With Covid delaying face-to-face training, the preceptorship team organised a skills and drills training day not dissimilar to the annual MIST and AIMS day that midwives normally undertake yearly...apparently. In the morning we had a session with one of the lead obstetricians in post-partum haemorrhages and it was really quite interesting. This was followed by obstetric emergencies. Again, really useful and much more relatable that that taught at university. Finally, the afternoon was ABCDE assessments, and again really useful because I'd never done that before.  We ended up finishing about an hour earlier than expected so I went back to Sam and Vicki's new flat for a housewarming barbeque. The weather was lovely so we spent the evening sunbathing before snacking on crisps and chocolate mini rolls
