How To: (Updated) YouTube Thumbnails

Image
Who's noticed a change in my YouTube thumbnails recently?! Well I did change them and I wasn't very happy! A couple of weeks ago, I went to my usual thumbnail maker programme, PicMonkey , and it would no longer let me save the thumbnail unless I had a paid account. Now you can have a free 7-day trial but seriously how annoying! I started playing around with some other programmes and I came across Canva . Without a doubt, out of all the sites I tried, this is above and beyond my favourite! I think it's super easy to use and fun to actually play about with and learn. I'm still not 100% happy with the thumbnails but I am defintely enjoying it! I do however think they look cute, attractive and professional. I love, love LOVE that Canva have 'YouTube Thumbnails' as an option which means the size is already saved, saving so much time! One of my favourite things about the site is that when you log into your account, you can see your previous creations. This make

Medicine Year 2: Useful Books!

Image
The start of Year 2 Medicine for UCL students is just around the corner and I thought I would share which books are the most useful to have to help these year go more smoothly. A lot of the books are similar to Year 1 here but in Year 2, there are a lot more needed to help you stay on top of the sheer volume of work.  Core Anatomy for Students: Vol. 1 - The Limbs and Vertebral Column by Christopher Dean John Pegington : Unfortunately, this is the core material for Anatomy at UCL. I don't think it is all that good but it is the book that all the exam questions are based off. Core Anatomy for Students: Vol. 3 - The Head & Neck by Christopher Dean John Pegington : Again, same as above! Rang and Dale’s Pharmacology : Pharmacology is one of the two big topics in year 2 and unlike the core science material, it's not covered in the best manner in lectures. A lot of the information provided is all over the place so it's quite difficult to fully understand it without usi

How to: Take the Perfect Selfie!

Image
I think anyone who knows me, knows I love to take selfies, especially as I go out by myself quite a bit. I've always prided myself on taking high quality pictures but since starting my business  it's now fundamental and incredibly important. It's how I sell my product! With that being said, I thought I would share a few tips and tricks that I've learnt along the way. I did share some photography tips before but not selfie specific. Chin down, camera up: hold your phone high up above you with it at an angle facing down! I learnt this very early on because I think my face can be rather fat. At this angle, it's more flattering at a height slightly above your face. Lighting: everyone knows lighting is crucial. I've found the perfect location in my flat (the large window) and the farmhouse  (the conservatory) that are now my go-to places but if you haven't, walk around the house until you find the best lighting.  Natural lighting: I think it's alwa

Owning a Business as a Student?!

Image
I was recently reached out to by another blogger who was doing a piece on student owned businesses. of course, I jumped at the opportunity but my answers had to be cut down a little bit. Be sure to check out the post here! However, I still wanted to share my full answers so here they are! My name is Hannah and I started my own business, called Hannah’s Lips UK , while I was studying Medicine at University College London. 1. What is your business about?  I am a UK Independent Distributor of SheerSense, the UK equivalent of the fast-growing US company Senegence. I sell many different make-up, skincare and coming soon, hair care. Our products are all long-lasting and animal cruelty free. I mainly focus on our premiere product, LipSense. I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it and that’s why I signed up to sell. It’s such an incredible product, lasting from 4 to 18 hours. It’s also vegan, gluten free, lead free, wax free and actually benefits our lips. It’s the best lip colour

Following on from yesterday's post, I ended up splitting the vlog into two parts. I did so much, it was just too long! Click here to read part 1 if you haven't already! Click here to watch the vlog or see below! Following on from yesterday's post, that evening, Zhangqi, Sophie and I headed to Covent Garden to see Mamma Mia the Musical! I think we all wanted to see a muscial at some point and it just never really happened so it was nice to almost force them to come with me. Either way, we all absolutely LOVED IT! It was amazing and put us all in such a happy mood! Once again, a review is coming soon! I am really going to miss the lat life, especially Sophie - and her blankets! I think she's going to absolutely adore her new room, now it's double the original size.   After tutoring all day, I made my way to The Stables at Proud Camden for a book signing event called #FabNightIn. As I had so much fun, I ended up making it a vlog all on it's own so be

Up at the O2, Inamo and Motown the Musical / Goodbye London - My Last Week Part 1

Image
The last couple of weeks in London has been crazy busy and I've tried to stay as busy as possible to make the most of my time living in the capital city of dreams, London. After a busy couple of weeks, I packed up my flat and headed back to Yorkshire to live with my mum. Click here to watch the vlog or see below. The week started by my mum coming to collect all my non-essentials from the flat and me packing everything up. She came a little earlier than I had anticipated so it was a bit of a mad rush at the end to get everything ready in time. I had planned to vlog a little bit but it was all a bit chaotic so it was over before I even had the chance to take my camera out! I've been lucky enough to see a lot of West End shows since moving to London but I did really want to squeeze in a couple more before I left London. Given the fact, I had some money saved, I ended up getting a completely free ticket to see Motown the Musical via TodayTIX . I seriously love that site

Blogger Showcase TAG!

Image
I haven't done a proper traditional TAG for a while so I thought it was about time that I finally answered some more questions! 1. I am Hannah Slack. I'm assuming that is what the question is asking but it's worded very oddly. I guess I'm a 21 year old, former medic who is about to embark on yet another university course. This time, midwifery. I love making memories and taking pictures which expanded into blogging and YouTube just over 4 years ago. I love fun, challenging myself and I hate being bored. Clearly. After less than a month of a holiday, I set up my own business! 2. I've followed YouTuber's for years and especially Anna Saccone-Joly. When I first started following her channel, I quickly realised she also posted consistently on a blog. I ended up loving the written communication format as it felt more personal. By the end of the year I was following many others... 3. I wasn't really aware of it at first but I did a lot of research. When I m

Minimalism and Mental Health

Image
You may have noticed over the past couple of week's I've shared a couple of posts about decluttering, minimalising and organising my house. I've actually really enjoyed doing it and I feel so much more accomplished now that everything is so much better arranged and put together. It's been a lot of hard work and time but for me at least it's been completely rewarding and satisfying. Today, I thought I'd quickly touch upon a couple of things I have been thinking about having minimalised my bedroom and bathroom. A lot of it is to do with my new found mindset but most importantly, mental health.  Mental health is a level of psychological well-being. It is defined as a "psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment". From the perspective of positive psychology or holism, mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life, create a balance between life activities and

MONQ: Personal Diffuser! (Review)

Image
OKBaby's Kyra, a vlogger that I follow on YouTube, has been loving MONQ recently and after entering a competition she shared on Instagram, I couldn't get them out of my head! I finally took the leap and bought a couple for myself and I fell in love. MONQ is a company that offers a unique product that I've never seen anywhere else. Unlike topical oils or household diffusers, MONQ is enhanced for convenience in the modern age. They offer the most direct form of aromatherapy with their MONQ Personal Diffuser allowing you to exhale therapeutic air wherever you are. This method allows immediate access to the therapeutic air, allowing the ancient wellness art of aromatherapy. MONQ uses 100% naturally extracted and organic essential oils, harvested from eco-friendly farms across the world. Their essential oils are the highest quality, so that every breath is effective. Safety is their top priority so out of caution they recommend only people over 18 years of age should use t

#FabNightIn with Louise Pentland, Lindsey Kelk and Paige Toon!

Image
I had so much fun at a book signing event last week! Louise Pentland, Lindsey Kelk and Paige Toon united together at The Stables at Proud Camden. Thanks to Fabulous Magazine, I had an amazing night out celebrating some incredible authors in one of the most organised events I've ever been too! Click here to watch the vlog and hear the author answering some questions, or see below. When I arrived at the event, I was greeted by a lovely team of people who took pictures on arrival and welcomed everyone with a choice of champagne, orange juice or a fizzy cordial. It was all very glamourous with champagne flutes and even a photographer snapping pictures! We were quickly taken into a room with the stage and red chairs, to be seated ready for the question and answer section. As we all waited, canapes were brought around the room thanks to the very attentive staff who were always on hand and offering. There was an incredible array of choices and I heard nothing but sounds of yummin
