A Letter to POTUS Trump 🦅

The unimaginable has happened. President Trump.

I've been struggling to decide what to write on the subject of the new President (Elect) of the United States of America. I think it's clear to see that apart from the voters in America, the majority of the world is against Donald Trump running the US. Having said that, even most of America voted against him with Hillary Clinton actually getting MORE votes but less areas so losing overall.

When I woke to the news, I was disheartened to hear who had won, deeply upset and also deeply worried for the state of the country. Despite that, the result has been made and albeit disappointedly, President Trump will be the next POTUS.

I think many will agree when I say that Barack Obama has been one of the best leaders in the modern age and I have loved following him and his family on this path. Admittedly, he is the only president I remember but I think he is so respected and respectful of others. Regardless of the differences (of which there are many) he and Donald share, he has chosen to treat him with respect and dignity in this turbulent post-voting period. He has shown dignity and I think that is something others need to take note from.

It is on that note that I respectfully signed a letter and joined almost 3 million people (at the time of writing) that will accept him as President but will not accept the morals in which he stands by and the policies in which he plans to uphold. I urge you to do the same and click here to sign the letter and add your name to the many signatures.

Dear Mr. Trump,

This is not what greatness looks like.

The world rejects your fear, hate-mongering, and bigotry. We reject your support for torture, your calls for murdering civilians, and your general encouragement of violence. We reject your denigration of women, Muslims, Mexicans, and millions of others who don’t look like you, talk like you, or pray to the same god as you.

Facing your fear we choose compassion. Hearing your despair we choose hope. Seeing your ignorance we choose understanding.

As citizens of the world, we stand united against your brand of division.

With hope,
I sign here.

Sometimes in the darkest moments the brightest lights shine. Let's make him a force that brings the world together, to fight for everything we love and not a person that symbolises division, upset, anger and fear.
