Unfortunate the Musical (Review)
Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula The Sea Witch is a revisionist parody musical of Disney's Little Mermaid. It began at the Edinburgh Fringe and this year toured the UK for the first time.
The touring cast is truly all star with Shawna Hamic (Orange is the New Black) as ‘Ursula’ and River Medway (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) as ‘Ariel’. I loved the difference with Ariel's portrayal and the diversity of the cast really lends itself to the story. You're actually encouraged to take out your phones and record the last song of the show and it feels like a true party atmosphere. Everyone is up and dancing, whilst the stage truly rocks out.
It was fun, hilarious and highly entertaining. I would definitely say it's more so for the adult audience however, because it's got some quite rude components which I wasn't expecting, therefore it's really not one I'd be comfortable with my children watching.
