New Year Resolutions 2024

This year, I don't know where to start in terms of resolutions. I feel like instead of focussing on individual goals, I really want to focus on my word. I've thought about this for a while and as much as I still need to heal, I've chosen the word embrace for this year. I want to learn to accept the things I cannot change. I want to live my life being true to myself, not living by someone else's rules or expectations. I want to choose my own authenticity over others' acceptance. I want to make peace with the fact that the roadmap to life is unplanned, but an adventure waiting to be written. I want to embrace what life has to through at me...the good, the bad, the happy, the sad, the love, the hate, the new, the old.

For actual goals, I'm keeping it simple this year but I still wanted 10. There's some usual ones, some traditional ones and some ones of specific focus.

  1. Read 12 books. I really liked this goal last year. I think it was quite realistic to be able to do one a month and whilst I don't have relaxing holidays planned for this year, hopefully I'll still prioritise them.
  2. Conquer America. I have big travel plans this year and I am spending a month in America and Canada. I will be sharing all about it very soon!
  3. Get fit. I bought a one year gym in October. I really enjoyed getting back into classes and especially swimming, but unfortunately, with the events of November I haven't been back in the last 2 months almost. Fingers crossed this is my year.
  4. No Diet Coke. Diet Coke is my biggest vice in life. Last year was the time for my year off but with everything else going on, that wasn't going to happen. I'm still not overly in the best place, but I'm better than I was so I'll be taking my year off this time round, with just 3 days of cheating: my birthday, Christmas and my choice of special occasion.
  5. Save serious money. With the house renovations over, I really want to and need to start saving some money. The majority of my savings have now gone into the house. I am probably going to have to put the remainder into a new car and then I have some money set aside for the rest of my two years of travel plans: America + Canada and Australia + New Zealand.
  6. Renovate the garden. The last big house project so to speak around the house is the garden. I still need to cut down the big hedge in my back garden, then paint those remaining fence panels. I also need to paint all the posts which I never got around to doing. The biggest project I will probably need a gardener for. I have an extra meter of my property behind my existing fencing. It's currently very overgrown and people are throwing lots of waste on it. I really want it to be completely cleared and then pebbles or paving stones put down with plants pots to keep it clear hopefully, whilst still looking pretty.
  7. Have an official spa day. I think I want to make this an annual resolution with a luxury spa day and overnight hotel stay every year. This years is already planned!
  8. Finish my Masters. I have passed the first year of my postgraduate degree and I am now well over half way through. I have just one module left, worth double points, and then it's over!
  9. Sell old clothes. I want to really start to minimalise life again now that I have everything organised. One thing I need to do is go through my clothes. Some of the items I have never worn and for those, I want to sell them as a priority. The other's I'm going to give myself to the end of the year, and if I still haven't worn them, I'm donating them!
  10. Complete my 2023 to do list. Of course, there's still some things left to do on my 2023 list and most of them involve things I wanted to watch: Big Love, Yellowstone, Pod Generation, Escape Room, The Spanish Princess and Siren. There's also a few books I was interested in: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, The Wish, The 7 Year Slip and Things We Never Got Over. Thank you TikTok for annoyingly inspiring me over and over again.

What are your goals of the year? Do you make resolutions?
