Another Major Haircut and a Fail

This is now the third time I have cut my hair quite dramatically and donated it. The first time I had it cut to my shoulders and the second time to slightly above. Both times, I donated 10". This time when I started to get the paperwork together to donate my hair, they wanted at least 12" ideally so instead of cutting it last year, after all the weddings, I decided to wait until the new year to get it a little longer, so it was about 3 and a half years this time.
I went in with the goal to get my hair shoulder length. I have found a hairdressers here in Nottingham that I love, but with the donation, I could get a free haircut, so I booked with another hairdressers instead. But then I was actually reminded of a competition I won for a free haircut with an old colleague of mine so after I conversation, I booked in there.

It was an interesting experience. I always love the pictures she takes of her clients hair and it always looks incredible so I had every faith. When I arrived, I was 5 minutes bad and felt terrible, but she was still working on a previous client. My appointment was at 12pm but I didn't get started until gone 12.30pm. We started by taking the bobbles and cutting the hair length off, then sat on the chair. I had thought it was a wash, cut and style but apparently it was just a dry cut. Thankfully she did wash it, and then started the cut. At this point, she told me her next client was at 12.45pm, which was less than 10 minutes away.

When the hair cut started it was going well, and I was really happy. She started on one side at the desired length and then worked round. By the time she was at the other side's front, there was a good inch different. I mentioned this and she said she hadn't finished, so I stayed quiet. We then dried it, but it was quite hot in places and her next client had arrived, so I offered to dry it whilst she got started. Towards the end of drying, she took over again, neatening the cut and then thinning the hair. There were a few very obvious areas and I mentioned them a couple of times, where she tried to level it, but at that point, I could tell she was rushing and I felt like she was just hacking off more hair.
Getting home, I realised it was worse than I had originally thought. I could see what she had tried to do by keeping the length at the back, that which was desired (shoulder length) so had slowly tried to fade it, but I wanted it all the same level. There was also some quite big steps and also, the top layer of hair was shorter than the bottom part. I was really quite upset, so I reached out to my normal hairdressers to see if I could get a same day or next day hair appointment before both a baby shower and wedding the next night. Thankfully, they could!
After the hairdressers, I felt so much better. They both made me feel like I wasn't going mad and that it really was a bad haircut. I went in for a dry cut, but they ended up doing a full wash, cut, blow dry and and style as she felt better starting from scratch. My hair also felt so much cleaner. She cut another inch and a half off the back to get it level with the front, then levelled it out as best she could. She dried it to add a couple of slightly shorter layers and then took her time going through each section to thin it and make it much lighter and less bulky.
Whilst it's a lot shorter than I had originally planned, I don't hate the length and it feels so much better now that it's all the same and not having huge steps in it. I have a friend's wedding in September so I'm hoping it gets to shoulder length for than at least!

Stay tuned for my donation experience coming next week.
