My Boudoir Photoshoot Experience - Part 2 (Review)
I defintely felt a little awkward at first, because I didn't really know what to do or where to look. I also felt very vulnerable and exposed, but the photographers were really reassuring and kept complimenting me. They were very directive so each pose they would ask me to get into, they would specifically tell me where to put each hand, foot, direction to face and where to look etc. I thought it would be a little more carefree and loose but it was very strictly regimented and seemed quite a rigid set pattern of photographs.
After the first room, I went back upstairs to get changed. This time, the outfit came with a lacy dressing gown which I really wanted to keep on. We started in front of a black screen and then they worked some magic to create lighting effects with red and purple filters. After that, there was a third room with chaise lounges in. Here, I laid on each with different props such as satin silks and pearls. I also took some photos against the wall of legs and bum, again with different props including handcuffs. The final room was an even darker room, with a silk covering and Christmas fairy lights. This was the one picture I really thought I would like and despite starting off really uncomfortable, I ended up getting naked for these final ones, although with hand positioning and lights, nothing super private could really be seen.
After what felt like just a few minutes, it had actually been three quarters of an hour, so it was the end of the photoshoot and I got changed back into my clothes, my hair still looking perfect. I headed downstairs for the afternoon tea section of the day. I thought this was great! It was quite a basic selection, but just the type of food I like and actually my preference. I had a ham sandwich on white bread, ready salted crisps, a sugar scone with jam and some caramel millionaire slices with juice. It was delicious!
After afternoon tea, I was meant to go upstairs for the photo viewing. I ended up having to wait almost 45 minutes as the previous client was taking a very long time. I was quite nervous going into the viewing but I didn't really need to be. I honestly didn't think I was going to like any of the photos at all, let alone a lot of them. They showed each photo in both colour and black and white. Given that they were digital copies that could be made black and white, I chose the majority to be in colour, as I also think they looked better too.
There started off with over a 100 photos, and I quickly narrowed it down to 47 photos by deleting the ones I didn't like. She went through them all individually on a slide show so I could select them. Of course, this made so emotional and I cried both with tears of joy that I finally felt beautiful and sexy for the first time in my life, but also sad because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep them all. It was then when she brought out the price list and I was in shock. It was hideous pricing in all honesty, so I knew I had to be quite critical of the images and so we went through them again and I kept 12 of them.
It was at this point she said she would do me a deal so I did get them for quite a bit cheaper, but still, I wasn't planning on spending any money so it had been a lot! She never pressured me to buying any and would have been happy for me to just have my single free image print, but know how it made me feel, I know I couldn't do that to myself.
On reflection, I do wish I had spent a little longer going through them but I felt quite conscious of the time because the company was running about an hour behind schedule, and I also had plans. Literally, walking out the door, there was already 2 photos I wish I had kept, but sadly, once you pay, all the other photos are deleted from their database. They also ask if you give them permission to share the photos, and I individually selected 4 of the photos to share publicly as they didn't show my face.
If you ever get the opportunity to do a boudoir photoshoot, I would honestly recommend you go and just do it. It has really changed my perspective of opportunities like this. Unfortunately, the price of the pictures I do think is truly extortionate. I cannot believe they can get away with charging so much, especially after the pictures have already been taken and there isn't really any editing done. Whilst I would love to do it again in the future, I think it will have to be for a special occasion, rather than just a random day. Maybe something like a pregnancy photoshoot etc.
