Cruella (Review)

Cruella is the latest 21st century Disney adaptation. The second I saw it advertised, or rather announced, I wanted to see it. I love Emma Stone who plays the main character and I also love the story of 101 Dalmatians, of which, this is the spin off. I didn’t go see it at the cinema, instead I waited for it to become available for free on Disney Plus, then watched it the day after (I think?) it came out.

It tells the story of Estella is a young and clever child who's determined to make a name for herself in the fashion world. Disaster quickly strikes and she has to fight to survive, as the film speeds ahead to her as an adult. We watch her try to make an honest living, whilst following her childhood dream, only to discover the truly about her past.

Let me start by saying, this film was not what I was expecting at all! But I loved every second of it. It inspired me in so many ways and brought out my inner fashion lover. The cast was incredible. Each perfect for their role and also playing characters that aren’t necessarily that which they’re known by they also had quite a few big stars which if was lovely to see. The music was perfect and I loved the modern twist. I also thought the ending was just brilliant. It set up everything for a perfect sequel of the better well known story.

For me, this film was surprise after surprise. It reminded me so much of Wicked in a way. It was a prequel to the well known story, yet went down a path I never imagined and made you really feel for the would-be villain. Instead of hating the woman, I fell in love with her. I think it was one of Disney’s biggest kept secrets. It has the magic of Disney, yet a sinister sophistication. I actually think this film has been made more so for adults to enjoy, rather than the children.

I think this film is truly brilliant. It has action, drama, comedy and love. Friendship, family and fierce independence. I can't wait to watch it again!
