International Day of the Midwife 2024!

A week yesterday, Sunday 5th May, marked International Day of the Midwife. I couldn't let it pass without sharing a post all about how I ended up celebrating.

It looked a little different for me, as I helped organise the event. As part of my new role which I'll share more of later, we organised gifts for all core staff (plus those working on the day), a fuddle of yummy food including a donated celebration cookie from my favourite bakery Wollaton Bakes, and for aromatherapy hand massages or inhalations. Labour Suite also got a load of individually wrapped cakes from a patient who had recently been looked after, the trust charity donated some chocolate boxes and the managers bought 6 bottles of wine to be raffled out to all midwives with a random number selector.

Sadly, the shift itself was was very busy and short staffed, so unfortunately I didn't get to see many of the midwives enjoy the event themselves, just a handful, but the coordinator and one of our managers ended up messaging me later in the day to say it was much enjoyed though and everyone really appreciated the gifts, so wanted to pass on their thanks to you all

I’ve always said I love midwifery and for the last few years it’s been my happy place; it really has saved me. I will always be amazed by the people I look after and those I work with.

Happy International Day of the Midwife!

A sweet family donated some thank you cards and keyrings, another family had written me the most gorgeous card. Our matron had made some lip scrubs and myself and the council, on behalf of the Shared Governance, made some little goodie bags with a card, pen and sweets.
