Choosing my Word of the Year
I've come to realise I've never shared the reason I choose a word of the year so I thought this year, I would start by sharing that conversation first. Each year I try to write resolutions, but I find whilst resolutions are nice to have and good to have as focussed, specific goals, they can also be self-limiting. I like to also choose a word of the year to try and focus my life, year around that word.
Choosing a Word of the Year is a simple way to remind yourself of what's important and what you want to achieve or change in your life. It can bring clarity and focus on who you want to become and what you want to accomplish. It can guide and mentor with kindness, as a one-word intention.
I've had a range of words over the year's and I've chosen words for different reasons.
- 2015 was "reset" and for the life of me, I cannot remember why
- 2016 had "progress" as I wanted to advance myself in multiple aspects
- 2017 focussed on "self-love" as I was really struggling at university and wanted to learn to love myself
- 2018 brought "change" as I moved from a lifetime of Medicine being the goal, into the field of Midwifery
- 2019 chose "confidence" as I started to feel like someone for once
- 2020 met "intention" and I felt like this was truly important as I was being pulled in so many directions
- 2021 came with "growth" from both a personal, professional and relationship perspective
- 2022 was important for "health" because I really wanted to focus on mental health, digital health and physical health
- 2023 needed "heal" as it was following my first, most difficult and painful of heartbreaks
- 2024 accepted "embrace" to accept the things I cannot change, given the year I had had previously
