BeHome by LuxUrban - New York Hotel (Review)

In New York, the hotels were - as you may expect - very expensive. I tried to find an affordable hotel that was still close and near to the tourist attractions, but unfortunately it was still the most expensive stay of the trip. Having now been, I don't know why I stayed there the first night but hey ho.

The location was perfect. It was a 5 minute walk from Times Square, if that, and had 2 subway stations at either side. It was also surrounded by little shops and restaurants for snacks and takeaways which was perfect. Unfortunately, the hotel itself let it down a little.

The reception area was a little shocking as it was a register on a desk with 2 stools for staff members. There was no lift and the hotel was 6 floors which is shocking. Having just got out of hospital and started to recover, I was out of breath just walking up on. Luckily, one of the security men offered to take it up to the 5th floor, but I was still out of breath just walking up the stairs by myself. On the way out and checking out, I had to carry it down the stairs myself and that was torturous. To top it off, they made me pay to store by bag! They charged for anything 1 minute to a few days!
The room itself was okay. It was small and compact but perfectly adequate and reasonable, especially for 1 person. I always find it a little frustrating not to have a walkway on both sides if there's two people sharing but nevertheless that wasn't the case. It reminded me of the hotel rooms with The Z Hotel in London and Liverpool. I didn't realise I hadn't shared reviews of both of these, so maybe in the future!

There was still everything that was needed with a bed, side table, safe, fridge and wardrobe area, and I loved the on theme New York decor. The wardrobe area was a little small but I just dressed out of my suitcase to be honest. There was an additional storage cupboard on the side and I was impressed by the under bed storage which easily fit two suitcases underneath and more. Although, this did make the bed very high so I had to almost jump in.
The bathroom had a clouded glass sliding door, with a fun feature tile on the floor. It was very clean and perfectly formed. I always find a towel rack about the toilet a little worrying as if they fall off, they touch the toilet which isn't ideal, but I made sure to put them on carefully. The only downside was the shower area. There was a broken shelf that was missing so I had no where to put any toiletries, and the supplied freebies weren't stocked. The hardest point was how tall the shower was. They had 2 heads with a waterfall and hand held, however they were connected and I literally couldn't reach either the handheld, nor the button to switch between the two. I asked for someone to take the hand held down, but no one did.

Of course, I did have problems with the room which I informed them of multiple times but they never were acted upon. The phone didn't work so I couldn't call reception. I wanted to call them about a few things to fix and as it was such a trek too and from reception, I didn't have the energy to walk back and forth. It also meant on checkout, I couldn't call for security to come and help take my suitcase down. There was no duvet cover which was really frustrating and the whole shower situation was difficult.

Overall, the location was perfect and I mainly stayed there to sleep so it didn't need to be perfect but it would it have been nice to have the problems fixed, especially when I told them multiple times via both in person, phone and email!
