Is the New York Go City Explorer Pass Worth It? (Review)
As I mentioned, I chose to purchase the Go City Explorer Pass which allowed me to visit 6 attractions for a one-off purchase price. It cost me $174.80. With the 6 original attractions I ended up choosing, it would have cost me $300.05 (plus $82) without the pass. This is a great saving, however I do somewhat think, I probably wouldn't have saved as much if I didn't have the pass because of a couple of reasons.
The 6 I decided to do were:
- Empire State Building - normally costs $51.17.
- Top of the Rock Observatory - normally costs $59.88
- One World Observatory- normally costs $49.00.
- Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry - normally costs $25.00.
- Big Bus Downtown & Uptown Hop-On Hop-Off - normally costs $82.00. The pass was actually doing an offer on the pass where the second day was free so I really saved $164 which was almost the price of the pass.
- 9/11 Memorial and Museum Tickets - normally costs $33.00.
Unfortunately, on my second full day on New York, the weather was absolutely miserable. It was so rainy and cloudy. I had a few top choices on my agenda that were unfortunately cancelled and although I went up to one of the observatories, there was zero visibility and by that I mean you could see literally nothing. It was such a waste of money and if I hadn’t already booked the pass, I wouldn’t have wasted the money to go up. Having said this, the Customer Services was incredible and I did get a second chance.
I found this was a pass thoroughly recommended but when I’ve since done research and a lot of the individual websites also did cheaper prices on their websites. I also saw on the Big Bus website, after the fact, that they had a price of $130 for the Hop-On Hop-Off, Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry which were the main three things I wanted, so realistically it probably wasn't worth the money ultimately, because I would have just paid for the 9/11 Memorial by myself and it would have been cheaper overall.
Despite that, ultimately I did save money for what I did, and it did force me to stay busy because I didn’t want to waste money I had already spent. Instead of one of the observatories, because of the pass I did Rise NY instead and it actually ended up being one of my favourite activities with the 7D experience and flyover New York.
