Food Poisoning, Beach Beauty and Japanese Chef Show! / Dominican Republic 2023 Holiday - Part 2

Part 2 of my Dominican Republic holiday was a little bit sombre. I got food poisoning so couldn't enjoy very much of it at all as I spent the majority of the time in bed, before sadly having to fly home to get back to life.

Starting with the last good day of the holiday, we sunbathed and relaxed in front of the main pool, and joined in with lots of the activities around the pool. They finally had aqua aerobics on, instead of aqua gym (which is bikes in the water) and we also did Zumba and Salsa lessons too. It was very fun and super relaxing. If I could do that all day, every day, I absolutely would!

In the evening, we headed to the Brazilian restaurant, which was sadly the start of the end...a massive shame. The restaurant was beautiful and the food spreads looked amazing. I loved the atmosphere and the area. The food was a buffet of sides and then multiple different skewers that they would then come round and cut up in front of you.
This show was my favourite of the week! It was based on the Dominican Republic and showcased many of their famous, traditional dances. I didn't like it quite as much as Jamaica's themed night, as they didn't explain the generational timeline, but it was still very clever and interesting.
Unfortunately, on the way back to the hotel room, I started to feel terrible. I had really bad cramps, which was only the start. For the next 2 days, I spent them sleeping and crying in bed. Between diarrhoea and vomiting, I had no energy and couldn't keep anything down. The scary part was when I vomited bright blue. I swear I was poisoned according to google, but all the doctors said no. Anyway, whilst I was stuck in bed, mum went out to enjoy the foam party and I was so sad. It was meant to be the best day of the holiday, finishing with the highly anticipated magic show!
Finally, by day 3 of being out of action, I was feeling a little better, but still not great. I headed to the pool in the afternoon and managed to keep some drinks down, although didn't do much else.
I did however manage to go for beach walk for 20 minutes and it was lovely to see all the palm trees next to the water again. They had a lovely swing by the sea and I of course, did the traditional country sign in the beach.

That evening we had a meal at the Thai restaurant. It was quite the show with the chef being very entertaining and cooking right in front of us. I still wasn't eating much so just ended up having some chicken egg fried rice.
We did watch a show and the most memorable part was a live crab. It full on scared me as it walked in front of the stage. A lot of people initially didn't know it was there and it went really aggressive anytime anyone walked past.
For the final day, I ended up taking a lot of medication to feel well enough to travel. Unfortunately, I was up all night after eating for the first time in 3 days, so the morning plans were gone. No dance class, no swimming, no food. Instead, I got up at 11, went for a beach walk, had a drink and then we headed to the airport.
The airport was lovely. By far one of the nicest airports I have ever been to. They had so many different areas, lots of seating and a lovely outdoor play area for kids. As we were getting on the plane, they had two very cute drug dogs. They got us all to line up and the dogs would go by smelling each person. It was very interesting.
The flight back went so smoothly. I didn't get to sleep very much because every time I started to doze, they had a new service making the round. We ended up starting to board almost an hour early, set off very quickly and ended up landing an hour early. Unfortunately, Birmingham airport didn't have any staff to unload the baggage, so we didn't get back to the car and home any earlier. Nevertheless, it was a nice way to end the holiday.

I am so sad to be back and so ready for another holiday already. Time to get planning!
